Christmas has come and gone. The New Year has come and with it the winter winds, sleet, snow and ice. January was full of snow and sleet and ice. The weather man tells us that the next few days should start a warm up. It is hard to imagine because the temperature on my thermometer was 17 degrees F. Now that is cold. But things on the inside are heated up and the Spirit is moving. Growth always sparks excitement and revival is close on its heels.
I am praying for a move of God in our families. I have been preaching from the "Hall of Faith" in Hebrews 11. If you read that chapter you will review nearly 3000 years of history and how faith affected families in every circumstance.
Noah began building an ark to house his family twenty years before his first child was born. He was acting in faith because he wasn't sure his children would respond to what he was doing. In all likelihood, he was the laughing stock of his community because he was telling them for 120 years that a judgment was coming and that it would rain and flood the earth. His neighbors didn't believe him. I am sure his children were skeptical too. They heard what the other kids repeated from their parents. I can hear the kids asking themselves the question, "Is my dad crazy? He is building an ark large enough to carry many people and animals. It has never rained and yet he seems convinced this judgment is coming. " Noah, in spite of all their unbelief, built his boat and loaded it according to the plan of God. When the time came his children followed him up that ramp and into the safety of that boat. There were lingering doubts as they waited, but when the rain began to fall, rain they had never seen before, they most certainly were relieved. Relieved that what dad had said was coming to pass was actually taking place. Yet at that same moment they realized that their neighbors, friends, even some family were going to drown because they would not come aboard. They heard the pleadings of people as they begged for another chance to come inside the ark of safety. But God had shut the door. I am praying for our families because there is another day of judgment coming. A day when the opportunity for repentance will pass. A day when the book will be closed and the body of Christ will rise up together with Him in the air. I want my family to know the Lord. I want them to serve Him. Just like Noah, I am preparing a place for them, by seeking God daily on their behalf. One day every one of them will, by faith accept that what their dad has preached for 30 years will come to pass. One day they will all be ready.
Will you pray that the revival that comes, will affect your family as well as mine. Will you believe God for your relationships in your family and that somehow God will begin that good work in them. If we come as a family and serve God, we will affect others like ourselves. They will submit themselves to the tug of the Holy Spirit and give themselves that promise of life eternal through Jesus Christ. Will you agree with me, that whatever God would have us do as a church and as a church family, we will do to be obedient to the direction of the Holy Spirit. If you will then pray daily. Pray for your family, pray for your church, pray for your pastor and his family, and come expecting that God will do what His word declares. Act in faith and miracles will happen. God bless you and your family.
I also want to say Happy Birthday to mom. Her birthday is the February 6th. Thanks for everything and Happy Birthday!
